Transforming Healthcare with a Direct, Patient-Focused Approach

Lakes Region Internal Medicine launched in 2025, offering a transparent, insurance-free approach to personalized healthcare.

Dr. Daniel H. Kallmerten, board-certified in Internal Medicine, brings 40+ years of experience, including Emergency and Internal Medicine. A Harvard biology graduate and former Division 1 lacrosse player, he initially pursued orthopedic surgery before shifting to Internal Medicine. Practicing in the Lakes Region since 1987, he spent 35 years in Emergency Medicine, overlapping with Internal Medicine for the last decade before leaving the ER in 2022. He and his wife are active community members, particularly in Gilford sports.

Our Direct Care Services

We offer a wide range of medical services to meet both routine and urgent needs. From preventive internal medicine to specialized emergency care, our team is dedicated to supporting your health every step of the way.

Primary Care Evolved

Direct Care provides personalized, preventive care with a focus on early detection. Whether it’s a check-up or a new concern, unhurried visits ensure thorough care. Easy access helps avoid Urgent Care and ER visits, with pre-op and post-hospitalization care included.

Preventive Screenings

Adult preventive screening begins at 45, or earlier in some cases. Established guidelines guide screening and treatment, with expanded screening for certain conditions. Early detection is key to disease prevention and long-term health.

Chronic Care

A healthy lifestyle is encouraged, but aging can bring chronic conditions. Internal Medicine routinely manages diabetes, hypertension, and more. Personalized care plans help maintain an active, high-quality life with regular monitoring and open communication.

Diagnostic & Treatment Procedures

In-house services include urine tests, strep, flu, and COVID testing. Additional procedures, like cryotherapy and arthrocentesis, may have extra charges. EKGs are available for cardiac evaluation and pre-op testing.

Emergency Expertise

With emergency medicine expertise, rapid evaluation by phone, telehealth, or in person helps determine the best course of action, from new outpatient recommendations to emergency referral for immediate care.

Lifestyle Guidance

Free from traditional constraints, Direct Care provides the time for a personalized health plan, covering nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management. With ongoing coaching and follow-ups, gradual lifestyle changes become achievable.
